Teen Moms & Caregivers: Restoring Lives, One Story at a Time

Every year, millions of teenage girls become mothers — not by choice, but through circumstances beyond their control: poverty, early marriage, abuse, or sexual violence.

What they face is more than stigma — it’s a struggle to survive, to be heard, and to raise their children in dignity.

The Bigger Picture

• Globally, 13 million adolescent girls (under 20) give birth every year.
• Over 90% of these births occur in developing countries.
• Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for nearly half of all teenage births worldwide.

Here in Kenya

• About 1 in every 5 girls aged 15–19 has been pregnant or is already a mother.
• Nairobi County ranks among the highest in teen pregnancy prevalence, with thousands of cases annually.

In Our Kayole Community

While data at the local level is scarce, we see the reality daily. Girls becoming mothers before they’re ready. Grandmothers raising second generations. Families stretched, broken, and yearning for healing. Some mothers have no income, no support, and no voice — only the will to give their child a better future.

Our Response

At Solicitude, we stand in the gap:

• We create safe spaces for teen mothers to share, heal, and rebuild their lives.
• We offer skills training — in crafts, small business, childcare, and digital tools — so they can earn income and gain independence.
• We work with caregivers and families to restore relationships, reduce shame, and build nurturing homes.
• We offer psychosocial support and mentorship, walking with them step by step as they grow into confident mothers and leaders.

We can’t change the past — but together, we can shape the future.
